On a June Facebook Live, Heald admitted he'd been spending eight to nine hours a day, six days a week replying to his 673,000 followers — a workload that would break a lesser man and most social media interns. Going forward, he's trading a chunk of that screen time for actual deck time with guests and crew.

• He's not vanishing. Heald says he'll keep posting Carnival news, filming his weekly video messages, and helping cruisers where he can.
• He is reclaiming his evenings, his family, and the ability to walk a Lido deck without live-blogging it.
• The plaque is real. The 39 years are real. The retirement rumors are, once again, not a thing.
