Want to Live at Sea Forever? Cool. Get in Line.
Villa Vie is adding a second residential ship, Legacy, for 2029 โ because its first floating apartment building is already 85% sold.
Every so often a listener drops a voice memo confessing they'd love to just sell the house and live on a cruise ship forever. Good news, dreamers: the market has spoken, and it says "there's a waitlist."
Villa Vie Residences โ the company behind Villa Vie Odyssey, which has been circling the globe continuously for nearly two years โ just announced a second residential ship called Legacy, expected to enter service in early 2029. They haven't said which vessel they're buying yet, just teased a rendering, with the official reveal saved for Odyssey's Two-Year "Sailaversary" celebration.
Why A Second Ship?
Because the first one is more than 85% sold. Turns out living at sea is not the punchline everyone assumed it was. Legacy is billed as a premium sister ship: residences roughly 50% larger than Odyssey's, plus bigger dining venues, more public space, and beefed-up wellness facilities. The catch โ there's always a catch โ is that ownership and monthly maintenance are expected to run about 30% higher. Bigger cabin, bigger bill.
The 24-Cabin Loophole
Here's the part that'll get people scrambling. Nobody wants to wait until 2029, so Villa Vie is offering the Legacy Bridge Program: exactly 24 positions, one for each month Odyssey has been sailing. Snag one of the first 24 ownership purchases by September 30, 2026, and you get to move aboard Odyssey immediately, then transition to a comparable Legacy residence when it launches โ with no additional purchase price and your original Odyssey maintenance rate locked in.
"We set out to prove that residential cruising wasn't just possible โ it was sustainable," said founder Mike Petterson. Two years and 85% later, point taken.
Tim in Australia, if you're finally ready to stop mailing us voice memos and just move into the studio next door, this is your window. The rest of the Golden Crew will visit. Probably. We'll bring Babyface, but keep him away from the buffet.
