Zac Brown Just Bought 37,000 Strangers a Cruise

The biggest giveaway in concert history has a floor plan, and it's docking at Margaritaville at Sea.

Somewhere between his 15th straight sold-out night at Fenway Park and the encore, Zac Brown looked out at 37,000 people and decided none of them should have to pay for their next vacation. Before launching into "Same Boat," he told the crowd, "Tonight, we're going to do something that even Jimmy would say is crazy. I'm buying every single person here a cruise for two people on the boat." Reader, he was not kidding.

Margaritaville at Sea confirmed the gift is worth more than $40 million and covers every fan in the building, redeemable on select sailings over the next year. CEO Christopher Ivy called it "an extraordinary way to thank the fans," which is one way to describe writing off the GDP of a small island in the name of yacht rock.

The catch (there's barely one)

The winners will sail on the Beachcomber, debuting January 2027 and home to "Same Boat" โ€” a first-of-its-kind, artist-curated live music venue that Brown co-designed himself. It's named for his 2021 collaboration with the late Jimmy Buffett, and it's built to feel like a permanent front row: premium acoustics, craft cocktails, and Southern hospitality bolted to a hull. Throughout the ongoing Love & Fear tour, the band is also gifting four cruises per show, so this generosity is apparently a nightly habit.

The Madison math

Here is the part I need the Golden Crew to sit with. A single artist gave away more cruise vacations in one night than most of us will book in a lifetime, and our biggest onboard giveaway to date is Tom offering to split a breakfast burrito that he then eats entirely himself. I've filed the paperwork. We are not competitive in the celebrity-generosity space.

Still โ€” a purpose-built live music venue at sea is a genuinely great idea, and exactly the kind of thing worth a segment. If Tim in Australia wants to fly eleven hours for two-for-one margaritas and a house band, I fully support it. Somebody just has to be the designated everything, and it isn't going to be me.

File under: the rare cruise headline where nobody's itinerary got cancelled and nobody scratched a foot with a fork.
